Continuing Education Guidelines and Forms

The continuing education programs for the County and District Clerks’ Association of Texas are designed to further the education of its members by developing and promoting seminars and conference that are beneficial to the members of the Association. The educational programs will include information on the statutory, constitutional and administrative duties of a county and district clerk.

As a new county or district clerk you are required to receive continuing education from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Texas for the topics Public Information Act and Open Records and Meeting Act. This education is required within the first three months of taking office and can be taken on-line at: https://www.oag.state.tx.us/open/og_training.shtml

 

Government Code 51.605 requires a clerk complete 20 hours of instruction regarding the performance of the clerk’s duties of office during each calendar year that begins after the clerk’s election or appointment to office. The annual requirement includes at least one hour every four year term, of continuing education regarding registry funds handled under Local Government Code, Chapter 117 and at least one hour every four year term of education regarding fraudulent court document and fraudulent filings.

The County and District Clerks’ Association of Texas provide three  annual education opportunities in collaboration with V. G. Young in College Station in January, University of Texas at Austin/School of Law  in April and our Annual  summer conference which is scheduled in June at the designated conference city.  There are also many other educational providers that obtain approval of continuing education hours for their conference that are approved for continuing educational hours. Continuing Education Certificates are prepared by the County and District Clerks’ Association of Texas and provided to active members who have met or exceeded the 20 hour requirement.  Certificates are prepared and available at the conference in January.

 

Continuing Education Forms

Continuing Education forms are provided at the conference attended in addition to being available on the website.  The forms may be completed and e-mailed or mailed to the Vice President of the association.  It is suggested that you retain a copy for your records.
